Altar servers are individuals that assist the priest and deacon during the Mass. They perform a variety of jobs including carrying the cross during processions, holding the book for the priest or deacon during prayers, preparing the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and much more.
Altar servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. They should have already received holy communion for the first time and normally receive the eucharist whenever they participate in the liturgy.
If you or your children are interested in becoming an altar server, please call the rectory at 201-998-3314. There is usually one day (or more) of training involving a few hours to help prepare the children for their duty as altar servers.
