Lector is the Latin for "one who reads." In the Catholic Church, the function of proclaiming the readings is by tradition not presidential but ministerial. The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from the Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. The lector may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between readings.
Lectors are asked to read over the passages before their assigned day to read. In any event that you cannot read on your assigned day, please find a replacement. If you have any questions, are interested in becoming a Lector, or cannot find a replacement please call the rectory at 201-998-3314.
